Two years old! | A letter to my daughter

My sweet girl,

I’m so blessed to call you my daughter.  I don’t know how the past 2 years have flown by so quickly!  And, yet, it seems like you’ve always been a part of our lives.  I was just looking at your baby pictures and I can remember those days like it was yesterday even though it seems like so long ago.

You are such a big girl now.  You are talking in complete sentences.  You can sing and dance to your heart’s content (which is A LOT!).  You like to sing along with just about any song.  You know the words to all of the songs your daddy and I sing to you before bed.  Your favorite songs to sing during the day of late are “Itsy, Bitsy Spider”, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, “Baby Signing Time” and the ABC song.  You are barely two and you know your alphabet and can count to 10!

You can (and do!) play with the big boys!  You don’t let anything stop you.  Your daddy and I often swear your motto must be “Anything you can do, I can do better!”  You always want to do just what your brother is doing – regardless of the fact that you are two years younger and quite a bit smaller!  You are already swinging on your own – the youngest your new preschool teacher has ever seen in more than 20 years of running her preschool!  You run after your brother and his friends everyday after school and do your very best to keep up with them.   You would much rather be in school with your brother and his friends than in your own class with kids your own age.  I think you will do great on your own after you adjust to school.  You had such a wonderful first day that the teachers were raving about what a wonderful helper and listener you are!

You are definitely your own person.  You love many of the things your brother does – trains, music, space, animals, and sports; but you also love to sing, dance and ride carousels wherever we can find one.  Whenever music comes on, whether we are in the car, at home, or even in a store, you want to dance and you want everyone who is with you to dance, too!  It’s the most adorable thing and even though your shy mommy would never have been caught dead dancing in the aisles before, I can’t help but dance right along with you when you say “Mommy dance with me?!” in your sweet, excited little voice.   Carousels are big in your world, too.  Anytime we see one, that is the only thing you can think about doing!  Your personality shines through once you’re on the carousel, too.  You do not want any adult to touch you or hold you on the horse – you want to do it all on your own.  As much as your are definitely an independent girl, you are just as cuddly and sweet.  You love to give those you love hugs and kisses.  You have such a kind heart and are always willing to help.

My sweet angel girl, Mommy loves you more than words can ever say.  I am so proud to walk with you as your Mommy, forever and always, my baby.  I can’t wait to see what you conquer next!
